Dragonflies

Having put in a pond in our garden last year, I was pleased to find a few dragonfly cases attached to bulrushes, indicating that it has already become a haven for insect life. You can see how the alien-like larva has crawled out of the pond, and then violently ripped itself from its case. They then take some time to dry off and then are able to fly as full fledged adult dragonflies, such as this one we found basking a few days later. I think it is a female Broad-bodied Chaser Libellula depressa but stand to be corrected. Dunc now has the cases.
