What will this become ?

Can anyone out there help me to identify this caterpillar ? It was crawling about on the mint plant in the Strode College Sustainability garden. I have also been working on a blog to track the garden's development and the link can be found here:


  1. Dunc, I think it is the Knot Grass moth caterpillar Acronicta rumicis which, according to this page, is often found on herbaceous plants

  2. Hi Ads - Jo (An ecologist contact of mine) agrees with your identification. I find it hard to ID as I have a lot to learn about caterpillars and need a better book of the developmental stages..
